Il Gin artigianale pugliese: L'eccellenza del Salento tra tradizione e innovazione

Artisanal Gin from Puglia: The Excellence of Salento between Tradition and Innovation

Calling a gin "artisanal" is easy. Actually being one is much harder. An artisanal gin from Puglia worthy of the name doesn't prove it on the label: it proves it in small batches, in long distillation times, in choices an industrial producer could never afford. That is the difference between making a product and making Puntamari.

What "Artisanal" Means for a Gin

It is not a packaging word. For Puntamari it means bain-marie distillation in a copper still, in small batches, in Trinitapoli, in the heart of Puglia. No colour adjustments, nothing added after distillation: the London Dry method allows no shortcuts. Each batch is slightly different from the last — not because of a process flaw, but because the botanicals of Salento are never identical from one season to the next. This controlled irregularity is the hallmark of a gin that tells the story of a territory instead of standardising it. Behind Puntamari there is no industrial structure: it is an artisanal project that follows every stage, from the selection of botanicals to the numbered bottling.

The Seven Botanicals of Salento

The aromatic heart of Puntamari comes from a precise selection of botanicals, almost all of Mediterranean origin:

  • Juniper: the backbone of every London Dry, the base that makes the spirit recognisable as gin.
  • Angelica: the root that binds all the other botanicals, adding structure and an earthy dryness.
  • Rosehip: a delicate floral note, never cloying, that blooms along the white country roads of Salento.
  • Sweet orange and bitter orange: the citrus freshness you notice on the nose, even before the first sip.
  • Lemon: acidity that cleanses the palate and brightens the finish.
  • Myrtle: herbaceous and balsamic, it grows wild on Salento's dry-stone walls — the note that closes the circle.

Seven botanicals, none of them exotic. The choice is deliberate: an artisanal gin from Puglia doesn't need distant ingredients to have character when its home territory is already so rich.

Recognition at the World Gin Awards 2025

In 2025 Puntamari won two Bronze medals at the World Gin Awards — one for taste, one for bottle design. We wrote about it here. For a small-batch artisanal production like ours, this kind of recognition matters more than any label claim: it comes from people who taste gin for a living, not from people who sell it.

Artisanal in Sustainability Too

Puntamari's craftsmanship doesn't stop at the liquid. 100% recycled glass, natural cork stopper, recycled paper labels: every bottle gives something back to the land that made it possible, Salento included.
